What is Home Programming?

Home Programming is simply extra help your child needs in the comfort of your own home. It provides a link among a child's current therapies. A home program is specifically designed by the input of a child's current therapists, teachers, parents, and the learning facilitator. The goal is to supplement a child's therapies, not replace them. Working along with other professionals involved with a child and implementing a home program promotes generalization or carryover into the child's natural environment.

Could Unique Link help my child with homework?

We can provide homework help with your child at your home or at school. We will work with your child to increase focus and maximize potential. If your child needs a different study environment than home, we can usually arrange a different meeting place more suitable for your child. Several schools have offered unused study rooms for after school tutoring.

How does Unique Link communicate with teachers and other therapists?

If parents have signed a release of information form we will openly communicate with all parties allowed. We will visit with all parties involved with your child in meetings, observations and communicating on the telephone. We attend IEP meetings when needed, train para-professionals in the public school systems for children we have previously worked with, and attend different therapy sessions to observe the techniques the therapists are using with the child. Some teachers photocopy areas of their lesson plans the child is having difficulties with. Teachers and therapists have been very receptive to reinforce these skills at home or at school. We will also type up reports for other professionals and parents to keep the lines of communication open. We are available by telephone or email if anyone involved has questions regarding a child.

How can a Learning Facilitator help my child at school?

Our purpose is to provide extra, one on one, reinforced instruction some children need in a school setting. Learning Facilitators can assist a child with many skills: fine and gross motor, turn taking, topic appropriateness, topic maintenance, topic closure, transitions, staying on task, interacting with the group, eye contact, and vocal volume. We can improve a child's attention level while assisting the child with writing, reading and math skills. Learning Facilitators strive to increase creativity, self-regulation, confidence, academic and socialization skills, while teaching individualism. Social interaction is vital to a child's success and a Learning Facilitator can help establish relationships among the child's peers and adults. Recess can also be a sensory enriching and confidence building activity by encouraging physical and social challenges the child wouldn't usually try on his or her own. There are many creative ways to help your child at his/her school, we are experienced in this area and we would love to help!
